National Syllabus applications now open! September 2009
As one of Europe’s premier choral festivals and now going into its 56th year, the Cork International Choral Festival has long been attracting choirs from all over the world to attend, either in a competitive capacity or to participate non-competitively.

The National Competitions structure provides choirs of a wide range of types, sizes and levels from throughout Ireland an opportunity to participate at the Festival. As choirs may enter more than one competition over Festival weekend, choirs can make the most of performance opportunities and present a wider competition repertoire, whether participating in the Premier Competitions, the Light Jazz section, Church Music – or all three! With several Special Awards presented over the course of the Festival, choirs are also given an added incentive to explore contemporary Irish repertoire and works in Irish.
In addition to competition, choirs are also encouraged to avail of the opportunity to participate in public performances and sing at church visits during their stay in Cork. Irish choir members will furthermore have the unique opportunity of attending a diverse range of concerts and competitive sessions while at the Festival. Hear some of the world’s finest international choirs as they compete for the prestigious Fleischmann International Trophy, and then mingle with them after at the Festival Club!
Our Schools Competitions continue to provide a platform for schools choirs all over the country to perform in this prestigious event, and by their participation to gain awareness of the wider choral community of which they are a part. The closing date for applications for the National Competitions is 31st January 2010. For full details of entry please download the application form on the National Competitions page.
Cork Culture Night All the World's a Stage at Civic Trust House For the second Cork Culture Night, taking place on September 25th, the Choral Festival along with other arts companies at Civic Trust House will throw open the doors to this historic building and invite the city in for a visit with a difference. The resident companies are working together to present a night of encounters where visitors will discover the building and its inhabitants in surprising ways through drama, music, film and poetry, closing with a re-invention of the good old Parlour Party.
Last year’s Culture Night saw 600 visitors to the 300-year-old house on Pope’s Quay and the hosts are putting on their aprons in the expectation of even more this year. Locally sourced hot food will be available for purchase at Mark Price’s market stall where he’ll be serving sweet and savoury crêpes as well as O’Flynn’s gourmet sausages throughout the evening, while Marquaha Coffee will keep us buzzing with a large range of hot drinks. At 11pm visitors are encouraged to dust off their party pieces for an old-fashioned Parlour Party! Read more...
