Seán Ó Riada Composition Deadline approaching

This newly reinstated composition competition invites the submission of new choral work by Irish composers, and is a collaboration between the Festival and the National Chamber Choir of Ireland. The winning composition will become a featured work at the Seminar for New Choral Music and will receive its premiere performance at the Friday Gala Concert given by Choir-In-Residence The National Chamber Choir.

Thursday Gala with Scala!
February 2010
Over the past number of years, the Thursday night Gala has been developing into a concert which brings to Cork some of the world's best young choral talent in a dynamic performance. This year will be no different, as Belgian youth choir Scala return to the Festival for a reprise of their 2006 concert which took the city by storm. On Thursday 29th April, prepare to be amazed by this group of teenage girls directed by two talented brothers, whose repertoire includes electrifying retellings of modern pop and rock classics including Kylie Minogue, Radiohead and Damien Rice. National Chamber Choir continues to push new choral music forward
The Festival is delighted to welcome back our official Choir-in-Residence the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, for another year of the popular Seminar of New Choral Music. The NCC also return to present their Friday night concert in St Fin Barre's Cathedral on April 30th at 7.30pm under the baton of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Paul Hillier.
The programme will include both old and the new, and in this, his Centenary year, Aloys Fleischmann's workPoet in the suburbs will be featured, itself a Seminar piece in 1974. Two exciting premiers of new work will also be performed, including the new commission from British Composer Roxanna Panufnik, and the successful piece selected through this year's Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition.
At the Seminar the following morning (May 1st) where the NCC, Paul Hillier and the composers will present a lively morning of performance and sicussion and look at the potential and pitfalls of the performance of new choral music. Admission is open to all.

On Friday 30th April and Saturday 1st May the Cork International Choral Festival are offering young and adults singers the unique opportunity to work closely with conductor and composer Michael McGlynn and the renowned choir Anúna. Read more... 
Conductor's Masterclass with Brady Allred
The Association of Irish Choirs and Cork International Choral Festival are delighted to offer a masterclass for conductors with Brady Allred.The masterclass takes place on Sunday 2nd May and is open to established conductors who wish to improve their skills and techniques, working at a high level with this highly regarded conductor and teacher. This masterclass is presented in association with CIT Cork School of Music. Each conductor will be expected to have prepared the music in advance and will be allowed at least 30 minutes of 'stand time' as well as 30 minutes to work with renowned Irish choir, Tribal Chamber Choir. National Schools Competitions schedule change
We're pleased to announce that this year has seen a significant increase in the national choir applications and that the National Competitions Schedules are now confirmed. See schedules...
Please note that there has been a change in the National Competition for Schools schedule. Competitions will now take place on: Thursday 29th April: - Section 2 Equal Voice Post-Primary School Choirs Don't forget this is followed by the Scala Gala concert! Friday 30th April: - Section 1 Primary School Choirs - Section 3 Mixed Voice Post-Primary School Choirs
