Raise your voice for World Refugee Day

Having a home, a place where we belong, a place where we feel safe is something most of us take for granted. Yet for those who flee from conflict and persecution ‘home’ can take on a very different meaning.

On Monday 20th June, Cork International Choral Festival in association with NASC and EDA Cork will host The Big Sing for World Refugee Day with renowned conductor John O’Brien, as part of a series of events being held in Cork dedicated to raising awareness of the situation for refugees throughout the world.

We invite you to come and lend your voice to this unique event and in doing so celebrate the common thread between every culture, tradition, and religion - the inspirational power of the human voice.

In what will be a free and public event at Camden Palace Hotel, Cork conductor John O’Brien will teach a specially selected song to the massed choir of participants in just 45 minutes. You don’t need to be able to sing, you don’t need to know the song, and no preparation is necessary - just bring your voice!

The Big Sing was first held as part of this year’s Cork International Choral Festival, which took place over the May Bank Holiday. Over 400 people came together to sing at the event, learning to sing and perform a famous opera chorus in just 45 minutes.

A range of events and celebrations will also take place on Sunday 19th June at Bishop Lucey Park, Grand Parade from 2pm.

Come and add your voice to World Refugee Day 2011!
