The festival wishes to congratulate Ann Dunphy (Conductor) and all the members of the Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane, on their great success in winning the All-Island School Choir Competition in the Watersde Hall, Belfast, on last Sunday, 14th November.· This choir has been a great supporter of the Cork International Choral Festival over the years, being designated the Festival’s School Choir of the Festival in 2008, and this success bears out the high position they hold in choral music at national level.· The choir is featured on the festival’s Highlights CD (2008) performing Gershwin for Girls.· Two of the songs they performed, Chattanooga Choo Choo (2002), and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (1997) are also to be found on festival CDs in fine performances by Ann’s adult choir the Wilcollane Singers.

La Jolla Chamber Choir, San Diego - USA, come to Cork!

News:

July 2010

On Thursday 22nd July at 8pm the Cork International Choral Festival presents a special festival fundraising concert featuring La Jolla Chamber Choir from the USA. Cultural Ambassadors of the City and County ofSan Diego, La Jolla Symphony Choir has been recognized for its musical excellence, high standards, and imaginative programming and they join us in Cork for just one night.· Over the last 43 years they have sung across the entire world; from concerts in France, Italy and Germany to Canada and even Bhutan. The La Jolla Symphony Choir has established a musical standard by bringing alive the great music of the past, while keeping an eye - and ear -· to the composers of today who are writing the great music of the future. This will be the choir’s fifth European Tour, and their Forty Shades concert promises a real treat for Cork audiences.·
The evening’s programme presents great diversity, featuring choral works ranging from Renaissance church music to American folk traditions. An added appeal of the concert is the inclusion of a solo violinist; Ms Lauren Mindoro· is a consummate concert soloist and the programme capitalizes on her versatility. The inclusion of favourite works by American composers (Avshalomov and Barber) that are based on Irish texts will be another highpoint. The largest single work is a little-known but beautiful a cappella Mass by Caplet, a French Impressionist closely associated with Debussy. (Dr. David Chase, Conductor)

La Jolla Chamber Choir, 22nd July 2010, 8pm, St Fin Barre's Cathedral, €10 on the door.
