One of the world’s most celebrated ensembles; The King’s Singers have amassed a portfolio of concerts, recordings, media and education work that spans the globe. Instantly recognisable for their spot-on intonation, impeccable vocal blend and delightful wit, The King’s Singers make a much anticipated return to Ireland as part of their 2012 world tour.
From Charles Stanford and György Ligeti, to Billy Joel and Michael Bublé, a wonderful mix of classical and contemporary pieces will be presented in this unique Gala performance, showcasing the wide range of the material for which the group is acclaimed.
In addition to their sold-out concerts worldwide, The King’s Singers share their artistry through numerous workshops and master classes and consistently champion the work of young composers. With phenomenal sales of sheet music recorded and over two million pieces of print currently in circulation, the ensemble’s arrangements are sung by schools, college choirs and professional groups around the world.
Maintaining a deep commitment to new choral music, The King’s Singers have commissioned over two hundred works from a host of prominent contemporary composers including John Rutter, Toru Takemitsu, John Tavener and György Ligeti, to name but a few. Among other illustrious media accomplishments, The King’s Singers were invited to perform at the Winter Olympics in Utah in 2002, and also appeared in a televised BBC Proms Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the DVD of which was awarded a Midem International Classical Award in January 2010.
With a discography of well over 150 recordings the group have garnered many awards and significant critical acclaim. Their studio album “Simple Gifts on Signum” was awarded a Grammy® in 2009, their 2010 release “Swimming over London” included a world premiere recording of Music for Vespers by Pachelbel with Charivari Agréable, and their 2011 release, with the renowned Concordia College Choir, featured commissions by Eric Whitacre and Bob Chilcott.
Alongside Cork City Hall, The King’s Singers will perform across the globe in some of the world’s most beautiful concert halls during the 2011-12 concert season, including the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie.
