Canbelto Womens’ Choir was formed by husband-and-wife team, Carol and Jimmy O’Byrne. Based in Song and Dance Studios Baldoyle, the choir performs a very varied repertoire from Sacred to Rock and Pop to Gospel in competition, concert and most importantly for the local nursing homes. Our members range in age from 21 to 70plus.We are previous holders of the Sacred and Gospel trophies at The A.I.M.S. Choral Festival in New Ross and The Navan Choral Festival. We have also competed in The Sligo Choral Festival, The City of Derry International Choral Festival, the Cork International Choral Festival and travelled to choral festivals in Lake Garda, Krakow, Florence and Wales. In 2018, we sang at The Altar of the Chair in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican in Rome on St. Patrick’s Day. During Covid, like many other choirs, Canbelto women’s Choir went online and recorded many videos of choral pieces for their YouTube channel. At different times the choir has supported International Singing Stars Tommy Fleming, Red Hurley and Aled Jones in concerts at The National Concert Hall in Dublin, The Wexford Opera House and The Ulster Hall, Belfast. We are delighted to take part again in this years Cork International Choral Festival. Many people have asked about the name Canbelto Women’s Choir. It is a play on the singing term Bel Canto or beautiful singing. We call ourselves The Can Beltos because we can really belt out a tune.
