Chamber Choir Glasis works under the patronage of Cultural and Artistic Society Markovski zvon from Markovci, Slovenia, and has been active since September 2013. The choir, led by conductor Ernest Kokot, consists of 24 singers. The choir skilfully recreates choir literature from every musical period, from renaissance to contemporary music, and performs it at concerts and competitions.
In 2014 the choir staged a successful project entitled “Gospel and Spiritual Music” and in the following seasons took part in international choir competitions (Olomouc, Czech Republic, 2015; Bratislava, Slovakia, 2016; Lindenholzhausen, Germany, 2017), where they were awarded one silver and two gold prizes. At Slovenian national choral competition “Naša pesem” in 2018, the choir achieved a silver plaque and went on to present itself at the international choir competitions in Zadar, Croatia (2018), where it received a gold prize and a special award for the best performance of a Renaissance composition, and in the International Choral Festival in Split, Croatia (2018), where it achieved third place and a bronze medallion. In May and October 2019 the chamber choir Glasis presented its first major music and scenography project “Musica Noster Amor”, a concert and performance presenting the development of music through different periods in history.
The choir regularly appears in concerts throughout Slovenia and its members believe their mission is not only to recreate great music, but to create a pleasant atmosphere within the choir and maintain good relationships among all choir members. It has some ambitious plans for the future, including a concert tour in cooperation with famous Slovenian jazz composer Žan Tetičkovič, and performing at the Cork International Choral Festival in Ireland.
Ernest Kokot is a music professor and a music pedagogy graduate in choral conducting, which he completed under the mentorship of prof. Jože Fürst at the University of Maribor. During his studies he was already active as a conductor of various choir ensembles. He was a successful choirmaster of Male Chamber Choir Ptuj (2005 – 2012), with whom he achieved excellent results in national and international competitions. To continue his professional development, he regularly attends seminars held by local and foreign choral experts. In October 2013 he also initiated the idea of establishing the Chamber Choir “Glasis”.
