Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir

Dublin

On 20 October 1966, some members of St. David’s Welsh Society formed the Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir. Since then, many Irish (and other nationalities) joined the choir, attracted by its unique style and repertoire, in addition to the camaraderie within the choir. In 2016 we celebrated our Golden Jubilee at the National Concert Hall with a concert of 150 male voices, including singers from Wales. We have performed several times for President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin, including after-dinner for Prince Charles and Camilla in May 2017. The choir has strong connections to rugby. We have performed on the pitch at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, most recently at the Leinster v Scarlets 2018 Pro14 Final. In 2015 we became only the second choir from outside Wales to sing on the pitch at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, before a Wales v Ireland Rugby match. In May 2017 we helped the British and Irish Lions squad learn 4 pieces of music which they performed at official events on their successful tour of New Zealand. In October 2018, we were privileged to perform, along with the Goronwy Male Voice Choir from Anglesey, at the 100th commemoration of the sinking of the RMS ‘Leinster’ off Dun Laoghaire in 1918. Our Musical Director is Mary Walsh and our accompanist is John Shera. We rehearse in the concert hall of the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook every Monday night from September to June and are always happy to welcome new members.

Conductor: Mary Walsh
