Iontas Moate Community School

Westmeath

Music in Moate Community School boasts a long and successful tradition. We have two choirs in the school. The Choir competing today is called “Iontas”. It is a 4-part mixed choir where students must audition to be a member. This choir has been very successful over the last few years, participating at Sligo Choral Festival, Arklow Choral festival, Feis Ceoil and the Interschools music festival at Wesley winning 1st and 2ndplace..We are also the reigning champions of the last All Island Choir Competition in 2014.We have been invited to sing at many prestigious events such as the 1916 Commemoration Mass in Collins Barracks where we met President Michael D. Higgins. We have also performed live on the “Afternoon Show” on TV 3 as well as many and varied events in our local area. We have been honoured to perform at the following events: The ACCS National Convention of Principals and Deputy Principals, the Annual Conference of the Inspectorate and in December 2019, at the National Missing Persons Day in Kings Inn. This is our first time performing at the Cork Choral Festival and we are really looking forward to this experience.
