The stunning history of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral will come alive with an organ recital by Robbie Carroll (Assistant Director of Music, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral). The organ, with 88 speaking stops and 4500 pipes, is the biggest in the Republic and the only one in the whole island of Ireland to be located in ‘a pit’. This fine example of historical restoration and new build can now be described as one of the truly great organs of Europe. The Romantic colours and sounds of the instrument will bring to life Holst’s much loved and mystical orchestral suite ‘the Planets’, adapted for organ solo and choir.
