Applications are open for Non-Competitive Participation!

Each year a number of international choirs are selected to participate in the non-competitive strand of the Festival. Participating non-competitively gives choirs the opportunity to present informal performances in various locations across the city, while having the possibility to meet with other choirs, see some of Ireland’s beautiful countryside, attend some of the festival events, sing and soak up the festival atmosphere here in Cork.

Whilst the essence of this Syllabus is similar to that of previous years, some material has been amended and updated to incorporate the current international climate. Please read each section carefully, even if you are familiar with our Syllabus.

Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of all the rules and regulations included the International Syllabus.

General

Each year a number of international choirs are also selected to participate in the non-competitive strand of the Festival.

The Festival offers the following range of performance options to visiting non-competitive choirs (these events may be limited in 2021 to include only the biggest venues and more outdoors venues may be used):

  • Various informal public performances as part of the Festival’s popular Choral Trail
  • A performance at a mass or church service in one of the city’s churches as part of the Festival’s Sacred Trail (appropriate sacred repertoire to apply)
  • A performance opportunity to meet your fellow choirs at the Festival’s successful Meet and Greet Sessions
  • A performance at the Festival’s Afternoons in the Atrium.
  • A performance, on a selected basis, in one of the Festival’s concerts, or national competition sessions.
  • Maximum thirty voices in the choir. (This limit has been introduced to allow for the best possible social distancing.)

In the event the 2021 Festival cannot happen in person due to local Covid-19 related restrictions, choirs will be notified in due course. The choir can choose to carry over the Entry Fee to the 2022 edition, or request a refund. We ask you for your understanding and patience with this, and also to keep in regular contact with the Festival Office.

Choirs are invited to submit a video of the choir performing a programme of pieces for use in case the events cannot happen in person due to local restrictions.

Application procedure

Applications can be submitted using the form below.

Each choir is required to forward:

  • An online completed application form (choir details + repertoire details).
  • Digital recordings of the choir (min. 3 pieces).
  • A digital short history of the choir detailing activities and achievements, in English (approx 250 words).
  • Two digital photographs of the choir (at least 1MB in size, print resolution or 300dpi) suitable for publicity purposes.
  • Receipt of payment of entry fee (See “Entry Fees”)

All elements of the application and supporting documents must be received by the Festival Office by 31st December of the preceding year to secure your application. Early applications are welcome, and the Festival can provide an early confirmation to choirs where this is possible.

Because we are running a hybrid festival in 2021, choirs are invited to forward a video of the choir performing of one or more pieces for use in case the Festival cannot happen in person due to local restrictions. The video must be in landscape format and should be forwarded by 28th February of the same year.
