The liturgy of the vespers is one of the oldest Christian liturgies, dating back to the first night during which the faithful used to wait for the Resurrection. When the sun sets and unleashes its many fears (total obscurity, wild beasts, the restless dead), the people gather, they light a candle, and they sing in hope for inner (and outer) peace. What did they sing? How did they sing? What happened around the singing? This workshop aims to help you discover this. We will be practising the ancient art of psalmody, singing hymns and antiphons, and improvising polyphony. We will sing around a lectern according to the ancestral tradition, and read manuscripts from different periods (13th, 18th and 21st centuries).
