Chœur de la salle Rowan

Liège

The ‘Rowan Room Choir’ came into being as part of the Cork Church of Ireland Diocesan Music Scheme. The choir are combined 5th and 6th class from St. Michael’s National School, Blackrock, situated on the outskirts of Cork City. The children participate in weekly choir practise with their Musical Director Mr. Matthew Breen. The choir enables the children to explore different genres of music in a fun and joyful way and have performed songs from musicals, pop songs, art songs alongside works from the more traditional classical repertoire. The members of the choir have studied music in numerous different languages including English, Gaeilge and Latin. In 2022, the choir entered the ‘National Schools Competition’ in the Primary School category and were awarded 2nd place overall as well as securing the ‘Irish Federation of Musicians and Associated Professionals’ Trophy for a performance of a song ‘as Gaeilge’. In 2023 the choir participated in the opening festival concert of the Cork International Choral Festival as part of the Cork Children’s Choir - a fantastic experience which will live long in the memory of those who sang and their supporters in the audience.
