Ireland’s flagship vocal ensemble and the festival’s choir-in-residence, Chamber Choir Ireland, will once again grace the Festival with its presence with a concert under the direction of acclaimed conductor Gabriel Crouch. 

Celtic Sentinel

Ireland’s national chamber choir conjures images of ageless Celtic landscapes in Celtic Sentinel.

The programme features music by four great composers from the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany.

Eoghan Desmond’s Guthanna ar an gCnoc (Voices on the Hill) is a choral epic, taking the listener on a climb up Mt Brandon. This setting of 6 Irish language poems by Ceaití Ní Bheildiúin invites the listener on a spiritual journey away from the modern, industrial world, returning to a state of harmony with nature.

The programme also features unpublished music by revered Welsh composer, Grace Williams; rarely heard settings of Scottish folksongs by Breton composer and 20th-century Druid, Paul Ladmirault; and a song by pre-eminent Scottish composer James MacMillan about the 18th-19th-century Highland clearances.

Gabriel Crouch conducts Chamber Choir Ireland in this celebration of shared Celtic heritage.
