Sbor Rafset

Švédsko

The choir Rafset from Luleå, Sweden, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022. The choir was initiated by the well-known choir conductor in Sweden, Monica Åslund, who gathered some friends around her to create the vocal scenic ensemble she dreamed of. Several of the original members are still in the choir, which consists of twelve singers in total.

Over the years, Rafset has presented a number of its own performances, but also toured in South Africa, England, Iceland, Northern Ireland, and Sweden. They have participated as an ensemble choir at the Norrbottensteatern, a county theatre in northern Sweden, in television programmes, radio broadcasts, at festivals, and as entertainers at various events. The highlights of their career include choral singing on ice skates in the performance "Eldens drom," South African boot dancing accompanied by singing, original choreography for Prince's "Kiss," and selectable music menus from which the audience can freely choose - just to illustrate some of the versatility.

Rafset's repertoire is broad and spans many musical genres, ranging from classic Swedish choral pieces to well-known pop, songs, and schlagers to world music. Always with their own arrangements, created by choir members or musicians in their circle of acquaintances.

The choir's plans for 2024 include a regional tour with a concert programme based on memories. The show was premiered at Norrbottensteatern in 2023.
