Brought to you by Sing Ireland

Saturday 4th May, 12 pm, Cork City Hall

Admission: Free of charge

Everybody has the opportunity to sing in the Festival! Come and take part in the 2019 Big Sing.

Sing Ireland are proud sponsors of this event which encourages everybody to join in. Singing with others can bring people together in a unique way and provides an unbeatable feel-good factor!

This year the session will be led by Ciarán Kelly. Under Ciarán’s  direction, you will sing through a selection of a cappella warm ups, plus you will learn and work on a main song, Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake – A Cappella!

This year we hope to make The Big Sing even bigger and better, and invite you to join us in City Hall to be part of the experience. You don’t need to be able to sing, it’s simply about lending your voice and experiencing first-hand the enjoyment and sense of community that lies at the heart of choral singing.

The Big Sing is open to everyone and admission is free. Music and lyrics will be handed out on the day, and there’s no preparation necessary – just sing from, and for, the heart!

Ciarán Kelly graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2010, having studied with Veronica Dunne. He made his opera debut at the RIAM in January 2007, singing ‘Don Curzio’ in a production of Le Nozze Di Figaro, and has gone on to sing with the Downpatrick Opera Fringe Festival, Opera Theatre Company Lyric Opera and Wide Open Opera. Ciarán made his professional opera debut at Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, singing the role of Conte Arrigo in a new production of Le Due Gemelle (Nicolini). Roles also included Endymione in a joint performance of Rossi’s Orfeo with Resurgam and Atalante, directed by award winning early music specialist Erin Headley, and a National Tour with Opera Theatre Company’s production of Carmen (Remendado). He is a current chorus member of Irish National Opera.

Ciarán performs a wide range of vocal chamber music, from specialist early music with professional vocal ensemble Resurgam, to contemporary a cappella music with Ardú, a group who he directs and manages. He spent two years in London working with renowned vocal performers Apollo5, performing throughout the UK as well as Estonia, France, Taiwan and Germany, and delivering vocal masterclasses to amateur and professional singers. In 2017 Ciarán toured the US with the Five Irish Tenors, performing to sell-out audiences in fifty seven cities across the country. He returns in 2019 with ‘Voices of Ireland’, a collection of Ireland’s top singers, performing much-loved Irish music across America.

Ciarán is musical director of Ireland Unlimited, Ireland’s national female barbershop chorus, Ardú Vocal Ensemble, Euphonics a cappella chorus and St Vincent’s Hospital Choir. Future engagements include a tour of America with Voices of Ireland, a European Tour with Ardú and a series of concerts and workshops on the East Coast of Ireland with Resurgam.
