We have 2 different internship positions available for the period January-May 2020 depending on your skills and aspirations.
We are looking for passionate candidates who are keen to establish a career in the festivals and music events industry.
This is a great opportunity to be fully involved from the outset with the production of a well-established and exciting festival. You will learn the basic fundamentals of festival events during the months leading up to the Cork International Choral Festival. You will also be exposed to the management of all logistical needs including but not limited to box office, entertainment, catering, signage, audio/visual, gifts, etc. of festival events. The internship will involve pre-production planning (marketing/publicity), content creation for our website and social media accounts, copywriting, proof-reading. During the Festival days, you will be required to work on-site at our events (concerts, workshops, rehearsals) at different locations across Cork city and County.
We are looking for a graphic designer who wants to advance and develop their creative existing skills by working with the Festival Team on a range of projects across media and platforms.
You have the opportunity to be a part of a lively, fun atmosphere, be exposed and participate in the production of a well-established and exciting festival. The position will have a variety of different tasks, including but not limited to the following: editing the festival programme booklet, creating posters and flyers and online adverts. You will also have the opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of festival events during the months leading up to the Cork International Choral Festival. During the Festival days, you will be required to work on-site at our events (concerts, workshops, rehearsals) at different locations across Cork city and County.
3 month internship period: 30 hours per week + increased hours during festival days (29th April - 3rd May 2020), schedule to be agreed). This is an unpaid internship. We are flexible regarding working hours and start/end dates for the right candidate.

Founded in 1954 to be a dynamic force in developing choral music in Ireland, the Cork International Choral Festival is held annually over the five days preceding the first Monday in May in venues across the city, centering around the City Hall, one of the most attractive and acoustically superb venues in Ireland. It is one of Europe’s premier international choral festivals and is noted for its high competitive standards, excellent organisation, and the friendliness of its welcome. Each year some of the finest amateur international choirs are selected to compete for the prestigious Fleischmann International Trophy. The selected choirs also have an opportunity to perform non-competitively in a range of Festival activities presented over the weekend, including Fringe concerts, church and informal performances. Their presence gives audiences and Irish choirs the unique opportunity of attending a diverse range of concerts and competitive sessions while in Cork. As well as foreign choirs, the Festival annually features up to 100 Adult, Youth and School choirs who participate in National Competitions. Overall the Festival attracts some 5,000 participants. The festival continues to ensure that choral music, representative of many historical and cultural traditions, is brought to the people of Cork and the many visitors who travel to the city for the event.

For Culture Night 2019, Civic Trust House, in collaboration with resident company Cork International Choral Festival, present the concert Around the World in 30 minutes. Friday 20th September at 7 pm, in the surroundings of one of Cork’s oldest inhabited buildings, Cork female voice chamber choir Cór Lae Nua will perform a mixture of early, sacred, contemporary and light music in various languages and by various composers from around the world, under the direction of Mr Nicholas McMurry.
The venue has limited capacity and places will be allocated on a first come basis. The concert will start at 7.00 pm. Civic Trust House will be open to the public from 6.30 pm.

In 2020 the current William Burgess Cathedral building will be 150 years old. As part of its celebrations and to commemorate this anniversary, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral invites all composers to enter the 150th Anniversary Composition Competition.
This award of €2000 is for the commission of a new set of Evening Canticles, Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, written for the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Organ.
The new work will be premiered at the opening Festival Service of the 150th anniversary year on Sunday 29th November 2020 at 4pm in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, giving the composer a platform to showcase their talent. The work will also be recorded by the Cathedral Choir and organ on their new CD, which will be produced earlier in the year and launched on Friday 25th September, 2020.
The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday 29th November 2019.

Choir! Choir! Choir! is a Toronto-based singing group led by creative directors Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman. The duo takes a non-traditional approach; there are no auditions, and the audience is the choir. Just show up and they’ll teach you an original arrangement to a song you love, to be announced in the run up to the Festival. After a day of after-festival recovery, we have found the words to express our huge THANK YOU to all the choirs, guests, funders, sponsors, audience, volunteers and everyone involved in this successful 65th edition of the Cork International Choral Festival! Whether big or small, your contribution was essential to the festival and none of it would have been possible without.
We had the immense pleasure of sharing 5 lovely days of extraordinary choral music with all of you. It was a huge honour to welcome over 5,000 singers and guests from across the world to Cork, to see their immense wealth of talent and generosity of spirit and heart. We were blown away!

Due to the effects of the SAS strike, Cork International Choral Festival regrettably announces that Helene Stureborg Chamber Choir's flight was canceled and couldn't be rescheduled. Regrettably for the choir, the conductor, Helene Stureborg, and for the Festival, they won't be able to perform at this year's Evocations Gala Concert on Friday 3rd May, 10.30 pm, in St Mary & St Anne's Cathedral (North Cathedral).
However, we are delighted to announce that, rather than to cancel the concert, the highly regarded chamber choir from Cork, Madrigal 75, with very short notice have kindly agreed to perform an exquisite programme for the night.
Cork audiences know the quality of the special Evocations Gala Concert that Madrigal 75 already performed at the Cork International Choral Festival in 2014.
We wish to thank Madrigal 75 and their conductor, James Taylor, for ensuring that the Evocations Gala Concert will take place during the 65th edition of the festival.

You will be aware that New Zealand has been in international news this past week, following a devastating terror attack in Christchurch.
We are a nation in mourning, attempting to come to terms with what has happened. However, to paraphrase the words of our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, we should remember that we were targeted not because we condone racism, extremism or hate, but for the very fact that we are not those things – because we represent diversity, compassion and a home for those who share our values. We cannot let this act change us.
As representatives of NZ’s vibrant choral scene, we have the privilege of hosting an event next year that will bring together a rich and diverse mix of people from all around the world. The Symposium exists to celebrate the joy of choral music through cultural co-operation and exchange. It is, in a very real sense, a direct response to the kinds of attitudes that resulted in last Friday’s atrocity.
Thank you to all those in the international community who have reached out to us and sent your aroha (love) and support. Your kind words carry great power.
