Founded in 1982 by Dr. Brendan O’ Connor Cois Cladaigh has been part of the cultural fabric of Galway city for over 40 years. The choir specialises in European music from the Renaissance period and contemporary choral music of Irish and international living composers. Cois Cladaigh has represented Galway both at home and abroad in that time including tours to France, Belgium, Italy, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Iceland, southern Spain where they performed in Granada, Malaga and Nerja and more recently their tour to Germany which included concerts in Bremen, Hamburg and Goldenstedt. The choir takes an active role in commissioning composers including David Hamilton New Zealand, Javier Busto Spain, and Irish composers John Buckley, Rhona Clarke and the late Michael O Sulleabhain. In 2011 Cois Cladaigh had the privilege of performing at the inauguration of Michael D Higgins. The choir has recorded several CDs and continues to support the work of living composers by performing their music where possible. Since 2021, Cois Cladaigh has been under the direction of Daniel Beuster.
