Cór Mhagh Ealla is a community choir based in Mallow, North Cork, situated on the banks of the River Blackwater. The choir was founded in 2001 on the initiative of the late Peig Russell, a highly respected and much-loved local patron of the arts. Now approaching its silver jubilee, the choir comprises approximately 60 members, with many new voices joining over the years.
Since its establishment, Cór Mhagh Ealla has continually expanded its repertoire and has participated in numerous choral festivals both nationally and internationally. The choir has performed in Wales, Venice, Prague, Italy and various locations throughout Ireland achieving notable success along the way. Its repertoire encompasses a wide variety of musical styles, ensuring broad appeal for audiences of all tastes. Plans are currently under discussion to travel to a choral festival in Paris in 2027.
In 2021, Cór Mhagh Ealla welcomed its new conductor, Susan O’Keeffe, and she is accompanied by Maura McAuliffe and her daughter Tina McAuliffe.
The members of Cór Mhagh Ealla take great pleasure in bringing enjoyment to others through their performances. In May 2024, the choir presented a concert entitled May Melodies for the local community, which was a resounding success. The choir was delighted to perform alongside classical tenor Eoin Hynes and their own soprano, Ann Linehan. In order to celebrate their Silver Jubilee this year, Cór Mhagh Ealla are staging another concert in their local community on 16th May and they aim to provide an evening of high-quality choral music for the people of Mallow and beyond.
