Scoil Mhuire Junior School has a very strong tradition of music and choral singing has always played a central place in its school life. The school choir rehearses once a week and performs a wide range of vocal repertoire. The choir sing at every morning school assembly and perform regularly a variety of songs to the whole school community. As a member of the Association of Independent Junior Schools the school choir was highly successful on many occasions in the AIJS Choral Festival in Dublin. In 2015 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Scoil Mhuire the school staged a very successful musical entitled Practically Perfect Mary in the Firkin Crane Every Christmas the choir performs in St. Mary’s Church, Pope’s Quay as part of the Scoil Mhuire College Annual Carol Service which is a highlight of the year for the whole school community, present and very many past pupils and staff. The choir also enjoys performing Christmas carols at Cork Airport every Christmas. In 2019 the choir performed with the National Children’s Choir in the City Hall and in 2022 at the Cork International Choral Festival the choir came first place in the Primary Schools Competition and won the Sing Ireland Trophy. The choir had a very busy Christmas in 2022 .They performed at the Cork Opera House Christmas Concert for two nights and greatly enjoyed performing also in St. Finbarr’s Cathedral at the Christmas at the Cathedral Concert. Scoil Mhuire Junior School Choir and their conductor Maeve-Ann O'Brien are delighted to be performing again this year at The Cork International Choral Festival.
