Scoil Mhuire Junior School has a very strong tradition of music and choral singing has always played a central place in its school life.
The school choir rehearses once a week and performs a wide range of vocal repertoire. Prior to covid restrictions the choir would sing at every morning school assembly. During covid times as part of our online assemblies every class regularly performs a variety of songs to the school community.
As a member of the Association of Independent Junior Schools the school choir was highly successful on many occasions in the AIJS Choral Festival in Dublin. In 2015 to celebrate the 60 th Anniversary of Scoil Mhuire the school staged a very successful musical entitled Practically Perfect Mary in the Firkin Crane directed by Laura Odorici.
In 2019 the choir performed with the National Children’s Choir in the City Hall. Every Christmas the choir performs in St. Mary’s Church, Pope’s Quay as part of the Scoil Mhuire College Annual Carol Service which is a highlight of the year for the whole school community, present and very many past pupils and staff. The choir enjoys performing Christmas carols at Cork Airport every Christmas also.
The Scoil Mhuire Junior School choir together with their conductor Maeve-Ann O’Brien are absolutely delighted to be participating in the Cork International Choral Festival this year.
