Limerick Chamber Choir was formed by their conductor, Máire Keary-Scanlon in 2017. The choir is made up of singers from the Limerick area with diverse musical backgrounds. A significant part of their repertoire to date has been works by living composers, both Irish and international. However the choir does enjoy singing works from other eras too. They have performed at the Limerick Sings festival since their foundation, and have also performed at concerts in aid of such charities as Mental Health Ireland, Autism Assisted Dogs Ireland, Motor Neurons Disease and other charities. They recently performed a new Requiem by Ciarán Casey, a member of the choir, at Glenstal Abbey, Co. Limerick. They were recipients of runner-up prize in the overall-winners of Lyric fm’s Choirs For Christmas, 2025. In February 2024 they travelled to Lisbon for the Choral Festival there, and they hope to do more travelling! They also performed the European premiere of the National Geographic ’Symphony For Our World’ at the LIT Gaelic Grounds, Limerick, together with an 80-strong symphony orchestra. Limerick Chamber Choir performed the world premiere of three choral works by Seán Doherty at the Bealtaine Festival in 2017, and they are happy to provide a platform for the works of both emerging and established choral composers.
