The Local Vocals are a community-based signing group, based in Macroom. The group was founded 3 years ago by Martina Ring, who is the choir master. The ethos of this singing group is based on fun and friendship while at the same time stretching our collective and individual singing abilities.
The group is a diverse local group with a mix of nationalities, abilities and ages – a perfect representation of how our town and neighbouring localities exist. The group meet each Thursday to practice and explore new songs and music genres. When it comes to music selection, the Local Vocals is very inclusive, with each member having a voice that is listened to – both literally and metaphorically!
Since the group was established, we have performed on a range of local stages, including the Old convent, the Father Ryan Hall, The Castle Hotel and most notably last May in the newly refurbished Briery Gap theatre. The purpose behind each of our performances is to support a local charity; helping others, through the joy our practice brings to us, makes for a winning formula. To date we have raised 10,000 euro and supported 6 local charities including Senior Citizens, Macroom Hospital and the Alzheimer’s association.
Our stretch this year is to perform in the Cork Choral festival….Broadway will be our next stop !
