New Dublin Voices and conductor Bernie Sherlock present The Dark Cloths of Night, a richly varied programme specially chosen and balanced for a Festival late-night event.
The music ranges from the quiet spiritual power of Ich bin das Brot des Lebens by Wolfram Buchenberg to the almost cinematic glory of a brand-new Yeats setting, Aedh Wishes for the
Cloths of Heaven
by Ben Heneghan.
The programme also features pieces by some of today’s leading Irish composers. These include Under-Song by Seán Doherty, and Jonathan Nangle’s haunting O Curlew. Biblical settings old and new place Byrd’s Haec dies alongside Caroline Shaw’s intimate response to Psalm 84, …and the swallow….

Ich bin das Brot des Lebens – Wolfram Buchenberg (Germany, b.1962)
In the Fields – Richard Barnard (UK, b. 1979)
Dum medium silentium – Vytautas Miškinis (Lithuania, b.1954)
O Curlew – Jonathan Nangle (Ireland, b. 1982)
White Birds – Laura Hawley (Canada, b. 1982)
and the swallow (psalm 84) – Caroline Shaw (USA, b. 1982)
Haec dies – William Byrd (England, b. 1540)
The Stolen Child – Jaakko Mantyjarvi (Finland, b. 1963)
Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven – Ben Heneghan (UK, b.1957)
The Island Itself – Sarah Quartel (Canada, b. 1982)
Under-Song – Seán Doherty (Ireland, b. 1984)
