Elizabeth Fort is an early 17th century star-shaped fortification. Built on a commanding site just outside the medieval walls, the fort overlooks the heart of Cork City. Elizabeth Fort has been in continued and varied use for over 400 years, including use as a military barracks, a convict depot for the transportation of women prisoners, a food depot during the Great Famine, a Royal Irish Constabulary station, and a Garda Station until 2013.
